Although we're just over a week into the new year, it isn't too late to get a fresh start. Last week's winter storm definitely threw us off here on the Crystal Coast. With temperature below freezing for several days and a few inches of snow on the ground, us southern beach-goers weren't quite sure how to handle it! Now that things are back to normal, we're ready to take the new year on and do so with a fresh, clean start!
Here are some tips on how to get your home, family, brain and time cleaned up and organized.
De-cluttering and organizing your home can be a daunting task, however once completed it is guaranteed to leave you feeling much better! We recommend taking one room per week. For example, take on your kitchen this week. Each day, organize one thing. Maybe today tackle the fridge. Throw out those old bottles of salad dressing, wipe the shelves and organize. Tomorrow, take on the pantry, the next day, organize your tupperware cabinet. When you break tasks down, they don't seem as overwhelming. In just a few weeks, your whole home will be de-cluttered and organized and ready for everything this year has to come.
When it comes to getting your family organized, we know it can get complicated, especially if you've got children. Throw in sports practice, dance, making lunches and more on top of all of your other responsibilities. We recommend getting a large month view calendar and placing it in a central location in the home where everyone will see it everyday. Jot down practice times, car pool responsibilities, doctors appointments, work events, everything! Take a glance at the calendar each morning before starting your day to make sure you know what you've got going on that day!
Take some time for yourself mentally. Whether that means spend an hour at the gym or take a walk on the beach, take some time to clear your mind and open up your brain for things that really matter. Don't clutter your mind with things that aren't important to you and your well-being.
Organizing your time will help you to have better use of that. Think, less wasted time and more time for things that make you happy. Don't be afraid to bid farewell to things that drain you, take up too much time, or just don't make you happy. By taking just a few minutes at the start or even end of your day to mentally (or physically write down in a planner) plan your day, you can more efficiently delegate your time to the important things in life. Be intentional about how you spend your time. We like to intentionally set aside all devices including our smart phones and do something fun - whether that means piling in the car to get ice cream, watching a movie with the whole family or having dinner together - make a point to unplug.
